New Panorama Software For Camera Phones

Permalink: New Panorama Software For Camera Phones by Brian Turner

Scalado, the photo software company, has launched a software package to enable camera phones to take wide panorama photos by joining several photos in sequence.

The software features innovative technology which stitches numerous images together in order to create a single, specialised photograph. The panoramic photo is produced automatically by simply clicking a button on the handset. The camera vibrates to tell the user when it is time to take the next photo in the sequence.

The feature, known as AutoRama, allows a user to take 10 high-resolution images in succession and features 8 different stitching modes. The software automatically stitches the high-resolution images together to produce the desired size of photograph.

AutoRama works with Scalado’s patented RAJPEG technology. This is a JPEG codec technology which reduces memory requirements and processes JPEG input and output images in the compressed domain.

This enables the viewing of any part of a JPEG image without the need to access the previous parts of the image. RAJPEG reduces the amount of RAM memory required by a factor of 25x while still processing full resolution mega pixel images.

The technology increases performance and the speed for image manipulation by a factor of up to 10x. The company is also patenting the method of creating the panorama.
