Mobile media company, 3UK has announced the release of its 3Skypephone on November 2.
The 3G device, which functions as a standard mobile, can make VoIP calls with one touch of the Skype button which is located in the middle of the device.
Users can then make free Skype-to-Skype mobile calls and also send free instant messages.
However, VoIP calls to non-Skype numbers will be charged at 3’s standard mobile rates.
The 3Skypephone weighs just 86g and measure 100 x 44 x 13.6mm. It comes in a choice of black or white, with a blue or pink trim.
It also features a 2-megapixel camera with photo editing and effects, and video capture.
An MP3 player; mobile TV and internet; Bluetooth; Java and 3D gaming; and a 262,000 colour display and also included.
The Skypephone will cost around £50 for pay-as-you go customers, with a minimum top-up of £10 a month.
It will be distributed free to contract customers, as long as they pay a minimum £12 a month on standard mobile calls.
VoIP calls will be carried over Hutchison Whampoa’s own mobile network, helping to ensure call quality.
