T-Mobile has announced the immediate availability of the Sidekick iD smartphone, initially in the US.

The phone, which is designed for younger consumers, has an easily customisable exterior with removable and replaceable panels in a variety of colours, shades and patterns.

Its rich communications capabilities include voice calling and a variety of options for messaging.

The phone has a 2.4-inch swivel screen with a large landscape color display, which flips to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard giving always-connected access to e-mail, instant messaging and text messaging.

Up to 10 IM conversations at can be held at a time and up to three email accounts can be set up on the device.

The phone features all the usual multi-media functions including a 1.3Mp camera, Bluetooth connectivity and music player with a 2Gb optional memory card.

A full HMTL Web browser includes enhancements for faster downloading and optimized viewing.

Sidekick iD also features T-Mobile’s myFavesSM, which provides the ability to personalise the homescreen with images of five favourite people.
