World's First Red-Eye Technology for Camera Phones

FotoNation has announced the world’s first red-eye correction technology directly embedded into a mobile phone.

The Red-Eye Correction Technology software automatically detects red-eye and corrects it, allowing camera phone users to take red-eye-free photos and eliminating the need to retouch them later on a computer. The company claims a detection rate of 70-80% with a visible false positive rate of 1-2%.

FotoNation has already licensed the technology to a number of companies for use in their cameras, including Kodak, Nikon, Pentax, Sanyo and Samsung.

The technology will be demonstrated at the 2007 PMA - the international convention and trade show, which will be held in Las Vegas in March. It will be available on the Nokia N73, N80 and N93 series of camera phones.
