Palringo’s Optional Location Information
Permalink: Palringo’s Optional Location Information by Alan Harten

Palringo, mobile IM provider, has announced that it is adding a new feature to its services that allows the user’s contacts to see their present location.
The new service has varying degrees of accuracy depending on location.
In some areas the software will identify the actual street,in others just the area of the city. In the countryside it will identify the nearest town.
The new system is already live for Windows Mobile users, who will shortly receive automated changes to bring the system online.
The company will then begin to spread the service to the other supported devices including Symbian OS, Java, BlackBerry® and iPhone.
The idea is that friends and contacts will know your location, giving all kinds of benefits.
These benefits would include knowing if it is cheaper to use a regular phone call or the Palringo system to make contact.
This is not an automated display; the user must opt in to give away their location to other people.
Users may also stipulate who may and may not view their location.
It is also possible to override the automated system and manually input your location.
