Samsung has released the world’s first handset with both a 5 megapixel camera and 3x optical zoom.
The G800 is Samsung’s second five megapixel camera phone to be released in the UK, and offers enhanced camera functionality compared with the G600 five megapixel device, which was launched in September.
The G800 provides improved image quality through its optical zoom capability. This uses the camera’s lens to bring the bring the subject closer, as opposed to digital zoom which enlarges a portion of the image and enlarges it back to size.
Other features include face detection, Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), Xenon flash and auto focus. The camera can take panoramic photos, multi shots and macro shots, and includes a video editing function.
The phone has a 2.4-inch 262K colour 320 x 240 pixel QVGA display, microSD card slot and USB2.0/Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.
The triband device is also HSDPA enabled and offers a full browser and blogging functions. It measures 101 x 51 x 19mm.
Pricing details are not yet available, but the phone should be available in Europe from November.
