Asus P527 Smartphone

Most of us, when choosing a phone, go for design, color and style. But really, is this the right way to select a phone? Except for those who know what they want, this is generally what is happening in the market right now. Consumers go for the “coolness” and the “wow” factor in choosing a phone. But for me, it should be the technology, the features. Style and design comes in second.
If its only design that you are looking for, then the Asus P527 is perfect for you. But of you are looking for more feature, more capabilities, then stop reading and go look for another phone.
The Asus P527 is a PDA from Asus that has no 3G function to support the fast transfers through GSM networks, but it comes with a resistant metallic housing that weights just 125 grams with the battery.
I’m not saying that the P527 is no good, its just that, the features are lacking. Really, the P527 is a great phone, one of its feature and its main selling point would be the built-in GPS SiRFStar III chipset and an FM radio, all running on a Windows Mobile 6 platform with a TI OMAP 850 processor of 200 MHz.
However, some features standard in today’s phone is not there. Aesthetically, the phone looks great. It comes in with a numeric keypad. This makes it easier to punch in phone numbers for dialing and even for keying in text compared to writing on the screen. It also eases in users switching over from regular mobile phones as most of those have numeric keypads as well.
As mentioned earlier, the handset does not include HSDPA or 3G connections. It does have other options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It works well on GSM900/1800/1900/850 networks and has a 2.6-inch TFT touchscreen of 65K colors and a resolution of 240×320 pixels.
In its 64MB memory and 128MB internal, expandable with an SDHC card, you can store different audio file formats like Midi, MP3, WMA and WAV, or the pictures and short movies you capture on the road with its built-in 2Mp camera of 1600×1200 pixels with autofocus and video recording capability.
Included in the phone’s utilities are: Java, changeable games, alarm clock, calculator, voice memo, T9, handsfree, Business Card Recognition and Voice Recognition.
Asus P527 supports GPRS Class 10, has a modem (EDGE), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for WLAN support, USB, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP browser, Infrared transfers, and also has e-mail client with IM messaging.
Even with these set of features, you have a feeling that Asus could have put in a bit more into the P527. If they would have include HSDPA or 3G connections, this phone would have had it all. Definitely an attractive phone towards consumers. With its great design, style and features, the P527 could have been one of the best.
