Two Years From Now Mobile Devices Will be Radically Different

Mobile devices are the biggest-selling consumer electronics products in the world, with more than one billion shipping every year which is many times more than other popular devices such as X-Box or Plasma TVs

However, the market is always changing and evolving and respected research company ABI believes that no matter where a company is today in the mobile device vendor league table. And no matter how big they are or what innovations they have on the backburner in four or five years they will have not be in what ABI calls a “comfort zone”

Both, already well developed and up and coming developing markets for these devices are being pulled in multiple different directions at once. Developed markets in particular are typically highly saturated, highly competitive and highly segmented, with strong product innovation.

The now vastly widespread use of mobile broadband access, is combining with the company’s desires to maximize data revenue, as well as the big push for smartphone operating systems down into mid-tier handsets, as well as the seemingly never ending and rapid innovations in user interfaces will all make the mobile devices in just two years time radically unlike those of today

ABI believes that as these technologies evolve and market trends emerge, we will see the user interface advances pioneered by Apple’s iPhone continue to spread. With wider use of accelerometers and the addition of haptic feedback to touchscreens.

Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) will become an important market segment, and vendors will increasingly look to diversify their product and service offerings.
