Samsung D830 Phone

The Samsung D830 is considered as the thinnest folder phone in the world released a year ago. Of course, knowing that it came from Samsung, who would be surprised? Samsung has perfected that technology - cramming all that great features in a thing stylish handset.
The D830, as a Samsung, is not that different with other Samsung phone when it comes to looks. The body is pure black and the design is minimalist. The body is pure black and the design is minimalist. The body can be perceived as having thin metallic plates pressed on top of each other with small pieces of plastic here and there. On the face, the designers have done a bit of work on the texture, adding grip to the otherwise monotonous blackness.
Even though it is a slim phone, the D830 is rather heavy. It weighs 92.5g or 3.2 ounces. This may be due to the fact that most of it is strengthened by metallic plates. Its display, battery, SIM slot, and camera module are all covered with it. The folder is slightly larger than a typical non-Japanese clamshell, measuring 103mm by 54mm by 9.9mm (4.1″ x 2.1″ x .39″).
The feature that could most probably catch everyones attention would be the bright 2.3″ TFT display. Color rendering is excellent and the QVGA resolution is sufficient. The audio player on the D830 is standard. In terms of memory, Samsung provides 80Mb built-in storage and a microSD slot supporting up to 1GB cards.
The music formats supported are MP3, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+. As usual, playlists and visual effects can be customized, and play modes and preset equalizers can also be selected. Audio quality through the bundled earbuds is reasonable. Sound over the speaker is way too soft, however.
Diving on to the D830’s camera, we see that it seems the same as that of the X820. It is a 2-megapixel camera CMOS fixed focus module. The maximum resolution supported is 1200 x 1600 pixels. Users are given the usual camera options as found on other Samsung phones, including white balance and ISO settings.
The camera is capable of taking videos at resolutions up to 352 x 288. Moreover, the shutter lag on the D830 is virtually non-existent. The biggest complaint would be the inability to save photos and videos directly onto the memory card. To have your media on the card, you will have to copy them manually.
As far as quality is concerned, the D830 produces fine quality pictures especially with ample light source. Indoor pictures are decent for a camera of this class.
The D830 uses the same interface as the other newer Samsung phones. The two built-in themes both look great. The black one provides better contrast, and the white one makes the phone more feminine.
The Samsung SGH-D830 is a tri-band phone that supports the GSM 900, 1800, and 1900MHz bands. Audio quality over the earpiece is loud and clear, but don’t expect the speaker phone function to be any better than the ringtones. Reception, however, is never a problem.
This phone support neither voice commands, voice dialing, nor vibrate+ring. Although the ringer is so soft that it is practically useless, the vibration alarm is stronger than average.
Samsung rates the D830’s 630mAh battery as being capable of 2.7 hours of talk time or 10.5 days of standby time.
The Samsung SGH-D830 is a GPRS Class 10 device that allows you to browse internet with its WAP 2.0 browser. Infrared is missing, but Bluetooth does the job, as it will allow data exchange amongst supported gadgets. You will be pleased to learn that the A2DP stereo profile is also supported, meaning that you can connect the phone wirelessly to a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones.
The D830 supports SMS, MMS, EMS, and Email.
In conclusion, the Samsung D830 is an attractive phone physically. Its metal plates makes it a solid and sturdy phone which may last for a while. However, its actual performance is nowhere near to the potential expected from Samsung.
