Pantech Group has launched the IM-U170 mobile phone, which includes digital camera features capable of recognizing a user’s face.
The IM-U170 clamshell phone has a magnesium case and metallic keypad illuminated with electroluminescent light.
The phone’s facial recognition technology traces the movement of the user’s face as an input rather than other controls. Users can capture an image of their face in real time as part of a game sold by Pantech as an application for the phone.
The handset measures 15.4-mm-thick. It includes an animated graphical user interface and both 2-megapixel and VGA cameras for video telephony applications.
Both of these cameras can also recognize the shape of a face and automatically adjust the image to take the best photo.
At the moment the IM-U170 is only available in South Korea.
