Tagit Pte Ltd of Singapore and DAEM Interactive have announced a new innovation in mobile image recognition technology.
The ‘Augmented Reality’ technology allows camera-phone users to interact with media channels and obtain information or digital content.
It provides a new dimension to advertisements by allowing users to capture images of products or logos and instantly receive information such as promotional offers and multimedia content on their mobile phones.
The technology is as simple to use as taking a photograph with a camera phone. The application software is preloaded onto a mobile device. When the image is taken it is sent to a central server for decoding.
After decoding, it connects to meta data associated with the image which can be in both text and visual formats.
This information, which could be songs, video clips or games, can then be shared with family and friends via the mobile device.
If a user decides to make a purchase through the transaction feature in Tagit, the device is connected directly to the e-commerce site of the business.
Tagit and Daem Interactive are jointly marketing the technology at CommunicAsia 2007 at Singapore Expo from June 19-22.
