Nokia Patents Voice Tag Technology

The US Patent & Trademark Office has granted Nokia a patent for using voice tags to file camera phone pictures.
Many mobile handsets store pictures in a single image folder. When the folder is full, another is automatically created. Other handsets store images in separate folders with pre-defined labels such as ‘vacation’ or ‘friends’.
A user can decide what to do with an image through a series of menus on the phone’s navigation controls.
Under Nokia’s patented system, when a picture is taken it is displayed on the phone’s screen for a defined period of time. During this period the user can assign a voice tag to the image which will define where the picture is stored, or alternatively delete it.
To assign the voice tag, the user speaks into the microphone and says the word ‘vacation’ to store the image in the ‘vacation’ folder in the phone’s memory. The image can be stored in several folders just by saying the names of all the folders where the image is to be stored.
Prior to storing any images, the user must record the voice tags, which match specific words and phrases to instructions.
