A Quick Look at the Palm Treo 700wx
Permalink: A Quick Look at the Palm Treo 700wx by Franz Bicar
The Palm Treo 700wx has come a long way from its predecessors, the 700w. It still has the same design and runs the same OS. The only difference in this model, is the RAM upgrade which gives the user twice the available program memory . Its more advanced 48MB memory goes a long way in making this device more responsive, and a lot more faster than its predecessor.
But the device is not that perfect. You will still see some things that needs a lot of improvement to make it even more attractive towards its target users. One thing that comes to mind is the devices’ unintuitive interface and excessive number of taps and button presses needed to launch an application that is not easily reach by the home screen. Another is the difficulty in typing into the 700wx’s keypad. However, these things are minimal and is only a bit of a concern since users will more or less be accustomed to typing on this device the longer they use it.
As mentioned, the 700wx looks like its predecessor. It measures at about 2.3 by 0.8 by 5.2 inches and weighs in at 6.2 ounces. It has a 2.5-inch, 240-by-240-pixel display but its main flaw is its dimness that limits its visibility specially when used under the bright glare of the sun.
Other things that is worth mentioning is its voice quality, which ranges from average to good. Its speakerphone capability is okay and using the headset, you’ll realize that it even performs better. It has a talk time of 5 hours, 28 minutes.
The overall quality of the phone’s non-messaging features will surprise users. The Treo 700wx has a fantastic music player. Though it’s not the highest-quality phone MP3 player, it’s certainly one of the loudest.
Its 1.3-megapixel camera is of equally high quality. Photos taken indoors and outdoors came out well, better than most cell phone snapshots.

I’ve gone through four of these phones in the past ten months. The first one was given to me by some Dissociative identity disorder-havin’ tr@mp (which goes to show that not everything that a tr@mp gives you is ALL bad…lol). This phone is great but not completey reliable. If Palm updated it and made it more modern and reliable, keep the Windows OS,and make the Sprint PCS photo sharing process a lot more streamlined, I’d stay but now I am going to consider my options.
