Face Tracking Technology For Camera Phones

FotoNation, which specialises in digital imaging connectivity software, has launched ‘Face Tracker’, the world’s first face detection and tracking technology for Camera Phones.
FotoNation FaceTracker was made possible through advances in digital image capture technology. The system detects the presence of a person’s face, and its position at up to 30 frames per second while an image is captured, enabling exposure, focus and colour balance to be set at optimal levels.
Face tracking was previously only available in digital still cameras, but PhotoNation demonstrated the camera phone system at the recent Mobile Imaging Summit.
FotoNation FaceTracker can simultaneously track up to 8 faces on a camera phone. Other features include automatic image orientation, face cropping, and the creation of thumbnail images for use in the phone’s address book.
