5-megapixel, zoom lenses mainstream in two years
The Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) in Taiwan expects 5-megapixel camera phones with zoom to become standard within one to two years.

At the moment, most camera phones feature 1.3-megapixel or 2-megapixel non-zoom lenses, although more and more higher spec phones are coming on to the market.

Th LG KU990 Viewty, Samsung SGH-G600, Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson K850i have already been launched, while Samsung Electronics plans to launch its 920SC slider camera phone at the end of December. The Samsung 920SC features a 5-megapixel, 3x optical zoom lens.

Sony Ericsson also plans to offer a 5-megapixel, zoom lens-equipped phone, the SO905iCS sometime in 2008.
