LG Electronics has partnered with Germany’s Schneider-Kreuznach, a supplier of quality camera lenses, to incorporate the German company’s lenses in LG’s camera phones.
It is the first time that Schneider-Kreuznach has partnered with a mobile phone company. LG’s upcoming handset, Shine, will be the first camera phone equipped with a certified Schneider-Kreuznach lens. It will be launched in South Africa in early 2007.
LG’s and Schneider-Kreuuznach’s partnership includes agreements on joint branding, technical certification and collaborative technical development.
According to market research by IC Insight, the global camera phone market will reach 910 million units by 2010. The company expects the camera phone segment to grow substantially, with camera phones comprising 54% of the market by 2006, 68% by 2008 and 75% by 2009.
