Eye-Fi Inc’s wireless Eye-Fi card, which wirelessly sends pictures from a digital camera to a computer, beat nine other gadgets to win the traditional Last Gadget Standing session at CES 2008 in Las Vegas.
The competition is staged by Yahoo Inc and the winner is the gadget which the audience applauds the most.
Eye-Fi Inc’s card is compatible with any camera that takes SD media. It has an internal WiFi antenna that automatically transfers photos from a camera after software has been installed to connect the card with a WiFi network.
Photos can be transferred either to a computer or a photo-sharing site. The card has built-in support for 18 online photo services, including Flickr, Facebook, Picassa, Typepad, Wal-Mart and Costco.
Eye-Fi’s card beat a golf simulator; a wireless projector from Toshiba; SanDisk’s Sansa TakeTV, a USB memory stick which transfers video from the Internet to the TV; and iRobot Corp’s Looj, a gutter-cleaning robot.
