Apple's iPhone goes on sale in UK
Apple’s iPhone goes on sale in the UK and Germany today, and although fans are queuing outside for the stores to open, there should be plenty to go around.

The phone is available in 1300 UK stores and the company is confident that enough stock is available.

In the UK the iPhone will only be available on O2’s network, while in Germany it is available on T-Mobile.

Unlocking the phones for use on other networks can damage the device when Apple software updates are loaded, and also makes the warranty invalid.

Despite its high-spec, the iPhone only works on 2G networks, so isn’t the fastest device to use for web browsing.

Apple decided against providing power-intensive 3G because it wanted to keep the size of the phone down, and ensure long battery life.

The touch-screen handset is equipped with Wi-Fi though, and iPhone owners in the UK will benefit from free Internet connectivity at thousands of The Cloud’s hotspots.

The iPhone costs £269 to buy, and is available for £35 a month on a contract with O2.

Around 1.4 million iPhones have already been sold in the US, and strong sales are expected in the UK and Germany.
