Women drive camera phone use
In a recent study in Japan, the Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium (MIPC) found that 40% of respondents had printed out photos taken on a camera phone.

The study found that women were particularly keen on printing their photos, especially working women and grandmothers. Over half of respondents in these two groups had printed out their camera phone pictures.

Over half of the respondents to the study said that they used their camera phone several times a week.

Camera phone usage was particularly high among female high school students, with over 20 percent of this group saying they used their camera phone every day.

Nearly 40% of respondents to the study said that they had taken pictures with their phone that they would like to print out, with a particularly high response rate from female homemakers, part-time workers with children, and women with grandchildren.

The study found that 42% of respondents would use a digital camera for photographs of special occasions, while they would use a camera phone for snapshots.

The findings point to a need to educate camera phone users on how to improve picture quality by changing the photo-size settings.

Many users were dissatisfied with the print quality of photos taken using Standby Display and VGA size settings, even though 60% of respondents said they used the default photo-size settings on their camera phone.

The Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to encourage collaboration across the hardware, software and wireless technologies involved in mobile imaging and printing.
