LG Voyager

Permalink: LG Voyager

jg-voyager.jpgThe LG Voyager is a feature-packed phone that does a lot of things very well. This is a compact phone that would surprise everyone with the feature set it hides in its various nooks and cranny. The 4.7-ounce touch-screen phone makes excellent-quality voice calls and flips open sideways to reveal a first-rate QWERTY keyboard for typing e-mail and instant messages.

The Voyager has a built-in 2-megapixel camera that captures pictures with a far more superior quality than most handsets in its price range. It even has stereo speakers that performs very well when you are playing mp3s. It also has a built-in GPS receiver and VZ Navigation service that makes this device useful for business users always on the go.

Once you close the phone, the device looks just like the successful Apple iPhone. Its front face is filled with the beautiful 2.8-inch display. However, the similarity ends with that. The Voyager could not compare with the iPhone when we talk about its touch-screen functions. The Voyager does have its VibeTouch haptics technology that provides good tactile feedback when you press an on-screen button. But, when you use fingertip scrolling, the Voyager disappoints. It lacks the smoothness and quality that the iPhone’s touch-screen provides.

The Voyager isn’t based on a major smart-phone platform such as Windows Mobile or BlackBerry, so you won’t have the range of productivity apps that’s available for those operating systems. Its battery life only lasted about 4 hours and 38 minutes - this is poor when compared to other units in the market.

As an iPhone competitor, the LG Voyager needs a lot of improvement. I guess the iPhone still stands as one of the best touch-screen phone in the market today.
