Samsung U600 Slim Slider
Permalink: Samsung U600 Slim Slider by Franz Bicar
Samsung is known for making the thinnest phones in the market. It even made surpassed that with the U600, touted as the thinnest phone ever. At 11mm thick, who can argue? Compared to previous thin slider by Samsung, the U600 has a thin and lightweight profile and weighs at around 81g.
Consistent with Samsung design, the U600 comes in an attractive form that looks smart and professional without being too formal. It has a large screen that measures 34mm wide and 45mm tall. Beneath the screen are two touch-sensitive soft keys, a mechanical four-way navigation key and touch-sensitive send and end call keys.
The phone slides easily to reveal the U600’s keypad. It is very easy to use but due to its flatness, there is a lack of distinction between each individual key, which may annoy some users. At the back, Samsung has wisely hidden the 3.2-megapixel camera behind the back section so that it’s protected when not in use. The U600’s spring-loaded slide mechanism is smooth and pops open with a small push.
Let’s go straight to the phone’s basic features. As with other Samsung products, the U600 comes in with a handful features. This includes a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back, an MP3 player, an FM radio, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) and a Web browser among other things.
The U600’s camera comes with autofocus and an LED photo light. Pictures came out well focused and suitable for small prints. A very good camera feature added to the U600 is the ability to take photos of business cards using the namecard recognition service. This feature then inputs all the important information from the photo of the business card into your contact database.
The U600’s music player is also very impressive. It plays a variety of music formats including MP3, AAC files and protected Windows Media files. You can set music to shuffle or repeat, rate individual tracks, create playlists and adjust the equaliser.
Samsung’s latest thin slider is a great phone indeed. It’s packed with all the basic features such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, MP3 player and expandable memory slot. But most of all, its design is great and very attractive.
