Mio announces A501 GPS PDA phone

The feature-packed Mio A501 is a fully functional PDA with satellite navigation functions and a 2-megapixel camera on the back with auto-focus and flash.

The device is powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, which provides desktop contacts, calendar software and push e-mail.

The A501 features a SiRFstar III GPS receiver, with an intuitive interface for route planning.

Mio’s own navigation software is included, providing information on points of interest and speed cameras. It also provides maps of 22 European countries.

The quad-band GSM/GPRS phone features EDGE technology and Mio claims it provides transfer speed approaching 3G for internet applications. Bluetooth connectivity is also provided.

The memory can be expanded up to 2GB with a standard SD/MMC card.

The A501 is priced at £340, which Mio believes will open up the GPS PDA phone market to the ordinary user.

It is available from online stores such as Mio Technology , Easy Devices , and Expansys.
