HTC launches 'Touch' phone in UK

Mobile phone manufacturer HTC has launched its ‘Touch’ phone in the UK and Europe.

Touch, which will compete with Apple’s iPhone, features HTC’s innovative TouchFlo technology, which recognises and responds to the sweep of a finger across the screen.

TouchFlo technology is able to distinguish between finger and stylus input. Sweeping a finger up the screen launches an animated 3D interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications.

The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display. It is also possible to scroll and browse web pages, documents, messages and contact lists using touch scrolling.

HTC Touch runs Windows Mobile 6 on a 2.8-inch colour screen. It features a 2-megapixel camera and a 1GB microSD card. The tri-band smartphone supports 900/1800/1900 GSM, GPRS, EDGE, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0.

The device will retail for around €450 and will be free with some contracts.

It will be launched in the US and South America in the second half of 2007.
