A brand new UK phone manufacturer made its debut at the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas. Velocity Mobile is the first new UK-based phone manufacture since the launch of Sendo in 1999.

The company, in partnership with computer maker Inventec, introduced its first two smartphone models at CTIA Wireless, both of which run Microsoft’s newly launched Windows Mobile 6.1 software.

The Velocity 103, which has a minimalist design with on-screen control and navigation, will be available in the second quarter of 2008.

The second new model, the Velocity 111, is a qwerty keyboard-based unit and will be available in the quarter three 2008.

According to Velocity, price, design and performance are the top priorities of consumers, and compromise in any of these areas can deter customers from purchasing a phone.

Kirk Suen, the vice president and general manager of Inventec’s Mobile Business Unit said: “Our new smartphones will deliver in the areas you would expect such as design and power, but fuse those elements with a simple and intuitive user interface, making the Windows Mobile experience relevant and accessible to the broadest possible audience”.
